The last expected foal for 2023 arrived a couple of days ago to mom Delilah. A sweet baby girl we have named Evie. She will be joined this spring out on pasture with filly foal Poppy (photo below) who was born in February and stud colt Maverick who was born in January.
As the snow will begin it's melt in the weeks ahead be mindful of high water levels around outdoor water courses and keep an eye on basements! A lot of "old" farm houses were built with a cellar that kept your veggies and preserves stored through the winter months and let the spring waters run "through without damage, they never were, or intended to be, like modern "finished" basements. Good time to make sure your downspouts/eves troughs are functioning well also.
If you have a chance, get out in the weeks ahead to a Maple Sugar Bush or a Community Pancake breakfast to enjoy some amazing maple syrup produced in Ontario. There are quite a few Maple Syrup Festivals so google to find one near you! We always enjoy the syrup from Sandy Flats Sugar Bush!
